Christian Nurture
a place for you
Growing in faith together
Christian nurture is central to our journey at First Presbyterian Church, helping us grow in faith, knowledge, and community. We offer opportunities for all ages to engage in meaningful learning and connection through three key areas:
BIBLE STUDY
Explore Scripture in a deeper way through small group studies and discussion groups that encourage thoughtful reflection and spiritual growth.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Enrich your faith with guest speakers, retreats, seasonal programs, and workshops designed to inspire and challenge you in new ways.
FELLOWSHIP
Build lasting relationships through social gatherings, small groups, and shared meals, fostering a strong and supportive church community.
Give Help
serve your community today!
There are many ways to serve and get involved at First Presbyterian Church, from supporting local missions and community outreach to caring for one another through visits, calls, and acts of kindness. Whether it’s volunteering with our food ministry, assisting with church events, or offering a helping hand to those in need, every act of service strengthens our faith and community.
connecting with your church and community
At First Presbyterian Church, we’re here to support, encourage, and walk alongside you—both in faith and in community. For more information on a particular event, please email the church office at info@1stpresby.org.
MEMBER CARE
Deacons
Deacons are ordained to serve in a ministry of compassion, witness and service, sharing the love of Jesus Christ for anyone in distress. The six deacons at First Presbyterian Church meet monthly and are each assigned home-bound members to whom they make phone calls, send cards and visit in person. They also serve the Sacrament of Holy Communion to them on a regular basis.
The Deacons also have a special fund should emergency needs arise for any member or friend of the church. Recently, the Deacons visited the dementia simulation house on the campus of UNI, to better understand those who are afflicted with this illness.
EDUCATION
BIBLE STUDY
Join us each Tuesday in Calvin Hall at 9 a.m. There is hot coffee and good conversation for those who come. The group always engages in meaningful dialogue and interesting study together. Topics change throughout the year depending on the liturgical season and interest.
FELLOWSHIP
Book Club
The book club meets once a month off-site. A different novel is selected each month. The group enjoys getting together to share insights from the books and updates on their lives.
SPECIAL EVENTS
First wednesday club
On Wednesdays during the church year, we gather and bring our own lunch to hear special guests, learn about new topics, or view thought-provoking videos.
The group meets in Calvin Hall at noon. All are welcome to join even if you can't make it every month.
fellowship
Presbyterian Women (Pw)
The PW is a very active group of women who meet the third Wednesday of the month for fellowship and Bible study. The Bible study is produced by Horizons magazine.
The PW supports local and global mission. Financial support is given to many area non-profit organizations that provide food, clothing and shelter for the needy. The Birthday Offering and Thank Offering help fund programs for women and children. The annual Christmas Tea is a highlight.

FELLOWSHIP
piecemakers
Quilters from around the community meet on the third Saturday of every other month (January, March, May, September, and November) from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Bring your fabrics, sewing machines, and cutting boards for a great time of quilting. Beginners and quilters of all levels of experience are welcome. A new pattern will be presented and taught each session.
